New generation of high-tonnage offshore flanges

This project aims to provide a structural response to the new generation of current offshore wind turbines. Its main objective is the conversion of an existing production line (with capacity for parts of up to 20 tons) for the manufacture of a new wind product at the FIHI Forging Industry facilities.

The new product will be a high-tonnage offshore wind flange (up to 35 tons), which will enable the company to adapt to new market demands, where there is an increasing need to build larger towers due to the growing power of modern wind turbines.

In summary, this project seeks to reach a manufacturing capacity for this new wind product, which is 40% heavier and has completely different dimensions compared to the main product FIHI had been producing to date.

To achieve this, several key production processes will need to be modified in order to efficiently obtain the new product (high-tonnage flange).

This project (PR-RENOVAL-2024-000064) has been approved and funded under Action Line 3 of the FIRST CALL FOR AID FOR PROJECTS TO STRENGTHEN THE VALUE CHAIN OF EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR THE TRANSITION TO A NET-ZERO EMISSIONS ECONOMY, with the aim of boosting the innovative and knowledge-based value chain of wind energy by the European Union.
